preciouspets is, i think, being way too kind and naive. as a human with chronic illnesses, i know very well what a problem front-office people can be with trying to control access to the doc, and how often it turns out that the doc has no idea about what information/lack of it their office staff is giving out. i'm sure that's the case with some vets as well, but doubt that this is the explanation here.
MEDICAL information usually isn't dispensed by the staff, so when one of them is so specific about something, i'm betting (HEAVILY, and i'm not a betting type), that's from the top down, and part of the givens at that practice: FeLV is spread by cats looking at each other across the street, EVERYONE knows that....and, in my never-humble opinion (nina and barb, you do NOT have to jump in and affirm that), when the staff is so misinformed, it's an equally good bet that the vet is not the type to listen to a mere client.
were you ever able to talk to one of the vets from the feline practitioners list? the idea of an internist is probably a good one, tho i wouldn't have thought of it just because i've never had reason to consult one.
on the FIV lists, we're gonna be putting together a packet of information to give out to shelters, rescues, individuals with the facts about FIV--theoretically, this'll be available for vets as well, tho i'm less confident that the latter group will be as receptive as the former ones. finding a vet who will listen and learn is the key, but it can be a difficult task. i'm not sure what the answer is other than to call every office and ask what their policy about treating FeLVs is.... if you get even a remotely positive--or even neutral--response from the office staff, i'd say that'd be a place with potential....
