Marissa, I agree that if you do all the "bad" things like giving meds, etc. in the same place, that kitty will not want to go there. So I would either A) do an equal amount of "good" things in that same place to offset the "bad" or B) do all the bad things in the same place, but not the couch or someplace you relax with kitty. I personally groom them wherever...on the front sidewalk, back porch, couch...wherever lots of kitty hair is needed. lol.
