Hey Gina, I am not sure how much is too much lysine, but from what I've read, if kitty is asymptomatic, then 250 mg. per day is good for maintenance. If kitty has symptoms or is ill, then 500 mg. per day is not too much. That's what I gave Smookie when she had a corneal ulcer. If she tests negative on the second FeLV test, then I don't see the need to boost her immune system, unless the test is wrong. I have a kitty with feline herpes and I don't give her lysine unless she has symptoms. Some people do though. It just depends on the person and their philosophy. It is good for them, so doing it for maintenance or for symptoms, either way is fine. I am not sure how much lysine is too much. I think some people even give 1000 mg. per day or more depending on how sick kitty is. You should research this more though. You can find info. on the web. Just pay attention to the sources.
