Kerry,
Make absolutely sure the vet is getting enough food into him, he will die if he doesn't eat. Some cats honestly can not go without food for more than a couple of days without developing fatty liver disease (which he may very well have). The ONLY thing that will save him if that is the case is food and lots of it. The liver is one of those organs that can heal itself but if a cat gets fatty liver and isn't being fed enough whether with a feeding tube or syringe they will die, no if, ands or buts!!

Please make sure they are feeding him a can a day and if he can't hold it down (maybe because of pancreatitis, there is a specific test for that now, has he been tested for that??), something will have to be done to get food into him. Pancreatitis is a vicious disease because cats are starving but don't want to eat because it is painful. The food to give for pancreatitis is I/D or something very low in fat. High doses of prednisolone can help with the inflammation and pain meds will help. Several people I know with pancreatitis kitties must keep them on pred for some time, slowly weaning them down to a lower dose. A friend I know has a cat right now going through it and they weren't sure she was going to make it but she is doing better and eating again.
