You might want to take him in just to be sure he doesn't have fluid in his chest.  I say that because I have just gone through this with one of our FIV+ kitties.  When I came home from work on Wednesday, my soul-kitty Wheezie was waiting for me having a very hard time breathing.  I rushed him to the e-vet and they pulled 140cc's of fluid off his chest... that is what saved his life.  We are now dealing with heart disease... but he pulled through because we took him to have the fluid removed.  We are told the prognosis is poor... but our Wheezie has beaten the odds more than once... so we're hopeful.  Just wanted to share in case it helps with your baby...

I took your advice and called back to bug my vet's office some more.  I
did get a call back from the Internist on duty.  He thinks the
possibility of it being Toxo, even with an immune compromised kitty is
like 5 out of 100.  He rattled off all the things it could be to cause
shallow breathing.  The felv itself, heart problems, fluid on his
lungs...  He suggested I bring him in on an emergency basis and at least
get an xray.  He's not sure who will be there to read it though.  I'm
hesitating, but I still don't think I'm going to bring Spence in when I
know a competent vet isn't there to read results.  I'm climbing the
walls here.  Thanks everyone for helping me through this.  I have a call
into Jasmine, my AC.  I'm hoping she can give me better insights.

To leave the world a better place - whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or an improved social condition - that is to have succeeded.  That only one life breathed easier because you lived - that is success.
