Dear Ma’am,
I am sure you, along with all these people who you sent this to are assuming that I am financially able to just pick up and move, however, financially I am not able to right now. If I break my lease, I will not get my security deposit back, which I need desperately for another apartment, when my lease is finally up and I can move. And yes, this may seem like I am abandoning them, but the reality of it is, I have taken them in from the streets, I have brought them with me to every apartment I have moved to and I have cared for them, I just can’t pick up and move financially. I work 3 jobs and barely get by as it is. This is not a decision I have easily made, however, I cannot have them. I have spoken with my landlord, the clause in my lease is to have ONE cat only, not 4, I snuck them in. They have come into my apartment to make sure there is no damage from the cats. I have replaced carpeting to ensure that I receive that money back. I am not just throwing them out, or trying to “get rid” of them. I am not pushing this on someone else, I am simply asking for help.
Appreciate your e-mails, but this is difficult enough on me, I don’t need to be badgered by people who don’t know the whole situation.
Thank you for your time,
Kristie

Agreed.  I spent 25 years in San Francisco, most of those years with more than 4 cats.  San Francisco is an expensive city with a low vacancy rate on rental units.  But I always found rentals where I could have my cats.   You just gotta make the effort.

I am so tired of people deciding to dump their senior pets on rescues, and then be surprised and angry when the rescue gives them a dose of reality.  Senior cats, even healthy purebreeds in the Bay Area, wind up in foster care for 6 months to a year.  An FIV+ senior cat isn't going to be adopted anytime soon, if ever.  This person expects someone else to commit to the lifetime care of these cats when  she isn't even willing to do it herself.

May her children repay her in similar fashion in her own "golden" years.

I don't mind being harsh.  I just can't imagine anyone who has had cats for the length of time that these cats have been living with this individual just throwing up her hands and saying, "Well, I have to give up the cats rather than get my rear end out of this dump and find a place where I will be accepted with my feline family."

Fortunately, I own my home and another besides and my plight is that I am putting up with a horrible tenant and have done so for years because she has a ridiculous number of cats (way over a dozen) and would not be able to find an apartment that would accept that number of cats.  This woman makes my life miserable, is ungrateful for every favor, including the fact that I have paid her vet bills many times because I didn't want to see the cats suffer from various maladies.  I have had her cats spayed and neutered at my own expense because she's on disability, probably for a mental illness. I have endured her drunken rages when she screams at me on my own driveway and I allowed her to use the electricity in my garage because she hadn't paid her own electric bill for three months and they turned off the power in her apartment.

I don't think the inconvenience of finding a place that will accept 4 cats would be too harsh a punishment for the comfort of knowing that the right thing is being done for the cats who trust and depend on us for their lives.  There's plenty of help available, even monetary help to pay pet deposits. This woman just has to begin searching rather then begin abandoning.

Just our of curiosity have you considered relocating to a place that allows your cats,??I do not mean to sound harsh  but It is so hard for us who make so many sacrifices for out cats out of commitment,
Why did your landlord suddenly change his mind, There are list of pet friendly residences I am sure someone will find for you in your area, PTS animals for that reason is just not personally acceptable , I am sure someone will complain about my attitude and I do not mean to offend and appreciate that at least you are making one last ditch effort,
What have you done already to get them placed if you do not want to relocate.? Can we assist you in educating your landlord.
We will surely do all we can to help, but what efforts are you making at this time,
Kelly

Subject: Need Help PLEASE!!!!
Hello,
I have 4 cats that are 10, 9, 9, and 6 years old that I need to find homes for, my landlord will not let me have them anymore and has threatened to evict me if I don’t place them. 2 of them are FIV positive.ve. I do not want to have to euthanize them and I have contacted many different agencies in Mercer County (I live in Hamilton) and surrounding counties and because of their age and the FIV, nobody has been able to help me. If you cannot help me, do you know anyone who might be able to?
They are excellent animals and have had few if any medical problems. I have owned them since they were young. 3 of them are from Guam and have traveled with me across the world. I hate to lose them, but I have no choice, anything you could do to help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Kristie Raines
