Well, each state should have an online court system that allows you to check on specific people -- I know people who routinely check new boyfriends, ex-husbands, etc.  You just type in a person's name and it'll show whatever cases that person is involved in.  If you Google "(your state) Circuit Court Access" you should get what you need.
