Hi Yvonne,
I must have been getting Peanut mixed up with another kitty on the list. I didn't realize that she was 18 years old! My goodness that's a long life, I'm sorry so little time of it was spent in your care. It's so sad that it took her so long to find you and the sort of home that every cat deserves, but at least she finally did. How are her companions doing?
Blessings to you in your grief,
Nina

Hi Nina,
Peanut came to us mid-July, with 2 of her companions from a bad situation. The other 2 gained weight, but Peanut did not. She was obsessed with food, though, & she ate, so my first suspicion was hyper-T, as she had already tested negative for intestinal parasites. I never imagined that it would turn out to be something like this, so I've been in quite a state of shock. Our vet said that cancer can sometimes cause an increased appetite, b/c basically the cancer is sapping all the calories & nutrients from the cat, so the cat tries to eat more to compensate. They said this probably started before I had her & that there was likely nothing I could have done to have changed the outcome, especially with an 18 year old cat. I'm trying not to second guess myself but it's hard. I know, though, that Peanut would not want me to beat up on myself, so for her sake, I'm trying not to. I know it will get better with time. Thank you so much for your thoughts. The support of others really helps when it comes to coping with times like these. Yvonne
