Sorry reread your email and see he isn't having a dental necessarily unless needed. During an exam, they should examine his gums for color, inflammation, redness along the gum line and tartar, check his teeth for any cavities or broken teeth, check the back of his throat for redness or inflammation, under his tongue for any abysses, tumors or growths, things like that.

During an actual dental procedure they will clean his teeth, remove any that are broken or can't be fixed, check more thoroughly for any tumors, abysses, inflammation or any other potential problems.
