I went through this a while back with my Shakiti.  He ate about a foot of dental floss.  We were lucky in that I saw him just as he did it so I took him to the vet right away.  They gave him something to make it come back up but it took almost all day.  The poor thing didn't want to eat at all for a couple of days after that but I finger fed him the A/D.  If he's already passed some of it then this probably wouldn't be an option.

I'd watch him carefully.  I would take him back to the vet's at any sign of pain or discomfort.  The fact that he's passed some of it is a good sign...i know this is gross - but could it have really been more than 4"?  When Shakiti barfed up the dental floss it looked like only a few inches until we stretched it out.

I know very well this is not a fun thing to go through.  I hope so much that Beeper will be ok.

Hi Sharon,
You must be so nervous waiting and watching to see if there are any
complications with that darn string!  Someone on the list just went
through a nasty episode with dental floss.  I'm trying to remember who
that was and what they did.  I do remember a visit to the vet.  I'll try
to look through the archives and see what I come up with.  Are you sure
that he didn't chew off just the 4" and the rest is laying around on the
floor somewhere?
