LOL, Liz! I feel the same way, I have
cousins I have not talked to since childhood. They used to never include me when
I would go to their house, and they always shunned me, or took advantage of my
innocence and got me in trouble. I never felt like part of that side of my
family at all (despite how desperate I was to fit in and be part of it at the
time). I got a letter from my long lost cousin Paul a couple of years ago, he
apologized for being so mean to me, and wanted to get on better terms. I never
replied. And I don't feel at all bad about it either, I hope it eats a hole in
his very soul, feeling guilty now. My mom sent me a picture of my cousin
Shelby's (Paul's sister) new baby a couple of years ago too. I replied "That's
nice, how'd she manage that, I thought she was gay?" My cousin on my other side,
Brandon, I have not spoke to him in a decade... he's highly successful, and
lives the charmed upper-middleclass life with his nurse wife that's absolutely
perfect in every way (think the red-head on Desperate Housewives, she looks just
like her). I just can't deal with that much success in too close of a proximity
to me! I only talk to any of my family in passing, over the phone, I moved 1500
miles away from them all for a REASON. My dad is a devoted
brainwashed christian hell-bent on saving my soul (he prays for me all the
time), my mom is a psychotic alcoholic that likes to beat her current
husband-of-the-month until they hit her back just so she can call the cops and
send them to jail. My step-mom was beating my son before I finally found out and
he moved up here. My ex-ex-ex-ex step-dad (the one that was my step dad when my
parents first divorced that I consider my step-dad and not just another one of
my mom's husbands is a sexual freak case and likes to tell me all his fantasies
(like eww dude, you were my DAD for a while, I like, just can't talk to you
about this shit).
LOL, anyways, point being... we all have
those odd family moments, you have to choose your battles!
