Indeed, stomatitis is usually cured by full extraction. There is also some success being seen with lasers on the inflamed oral tissue. I think your taking him in sooner is better, they can get him on an IV to support him since he's refusing to eat and drink. Until then, blend up some chicken broth (boil a small whole chicken, no salt or spices, and use that as your broth) with a little canned cat food, (use some of the softer fat from the chicken carcass too, it will boost the calories)and see if he will drink a "slurry". Make it very thin and blend well, so he can drink it without having to chew any of it at all. Give him some warm, and some cold from the refrigerator (two bowls), he may prefer it one way over the other.
