Oh Peggy, I'm so sorry, it really doesn't sound good does it? Is the vet going to remove the mass on his jaw? If he does, he can send it in for pathology, and then you'll know if it's cancer. My Tang cat is missing about 1/4 of his lower jaw on one side, from an injury, but he does really good without it, he does drool, but he eats just fine (and he only has 4 teeth total). I'd suggest an ultrasound of his abdomen as a matter of course for generalized abdominal pain. Does your vet have an ultrasound machine? It might be well worth the drive to a bigger hospital, if he doesn't (they do have to shave the belly usually, that's the most traumatic part, but they can do that, and then put him back in the cage to settle down, and do the ultrasound later). They could try an side view x-ray as well, solid mass type tumors will show on x-ray, and an x-ray is not a traumatic thing, especially if they can do it during one his nap times, and catch him in a sleepy mode. You should definitely have a look in that abdomen though, ASAP.
