yeah, this statement really got my proofreading/editor buttons going! just
what DID it say, anyway?

my final take is similar--that the CHANGE in types/locations of lymphomas,
from those previously associated with FeLV, was due to the increase in FeLV
vaccinations and the decrease in those specific types. (now, was that
sentence as obscure as the original?)

This makes sense -- in humans anyway, leukemia is cancer of the blood, so
it's not far-fetched that one sort of cancer (especially one that has free
range of the entire body) might promote another in a different organ. But
this is kind of a circular thing: The vaccine has decreased the incidence
of lymphoma in cats, yet the virus itself used in the vaccine CAUSES
cancer. Furthermore, generally cats that test FeLV+ do not get vaccinated,
and they have a high incidence of lymphoma. Makes me wonder if maybe
veterinary science should be looking into a vaccine made for FeLV+ cats that
will guard specifically against lymphoma while not killing them in the
process. I'm sort of assuming not a lot of energy has been expended on this
as yet, seeing as how so many vets still immediately assume that pts is the
first line of action for an FeLV+ diagnosis. Maybe now that SOME people
realize that it's the opportunistic diseases, like lymphoma, that carry
these babies off rather than the FeLV itself, there will be some work toward
lengthening their lives.

My take on the statement is the virus is the carcinogenic agent not the
vaccine. use of the vaccine has lowered incidences of Lymphomas in the past
15 years. However you have to read closely to get the meaning.
