Tim, in Houston I think, is trapping strays and ferals in an apartment complex there, and has an FELV cat. He is looking for a place for kitty. I don't know much about it, and tried to edit out much of the forwarded message (forwarded several times). BUT he's asking for help in placing the FELV kitty.

If anyone can advise him, please email Tim at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks folks! Gloria

Has anyone contacted Best Friends in Utah? They have a special "cat house" for those who have illnesses or disabilities and are difficult to find homes for.

Best of luck in finding a home for that sweet boy!! I have a FeLeuk+ cat, myself, but with 10 other cats, it's a full house so I'm sorry I can't take in this boy.

Bless you, Timothy, for wanting to help him!

----- Original Message ----- Everyone I have CC'd: I am asking if you know any resources (sanctuaries, or private individuals who may have a FeLuk cat and have room for another) for a non-sympomatic sweet FeLuk + cat who may otherwise be PTS tomorrow (who I think is in the Houston area?)...if you don't know resources, perhaps you know someone else in animal rescue who may? If anyone can foster this cat, I have noticed that the following site seems to be pretty successful in leading to placements in forever homes for FeLuk cats (and FIV). http://www.petswithdisabilities.org/catadopt.html

If anyone knows any other resources, please reply to everyone who is listed in the "cc" sending of this outgoing email of mine as they are the people needing to know the resources. (you can read more below about this cat, too)

Timothy (person who trapped the cat), I'm not an FeLuk expert, but I think it is communicable to other cats only through direct contact with saliva or feces. If you have a large crate or cage (or someone can loan you one), perhaps you could temporaily keep this kitty in it in another part of your home or in your garage until other resources can be found? I have a way full house myself, but hope that maybe one of my contacts might know some resources for you! Thank you for all you do for the cats in your area!

OK I understand, I do not think anyone has anywhere for a Feline Leukemia? Is that right Melodie?

The problem I am facing right now is lack of room. I need to either have the kittens leave or him leave within a day or two, because I can't keep him in the cat trap for longer I don't think. And I can't let him loose with the kittens. I put him in the trap because it's the largest container I have.

Is it Feline Leukemia or Feline aids (FIV)? If FIV, might have a place for him and could find a big cage to keep him in thru the weekend. She would need the weekend to see if she could get him in and probably could!

Just reply to us only!!!! Not the whole group!

I will take pictures of the kittens this evening. I just came home to drop the tom off after taking him to the vet for an exam.

Khan, who weighs in at 15 pounds of muscle, sinew, and bone, has FLV. At the moment he is healthy but will eventually sicken. However, the vet said that could be many years from now. I am still amazed at how much handling he tolerated, he's been much easier to deal with than the kittens. He is also affectionate, really enjoying a good scratching and asking for more. The vet hadn't seen a mature tom with huge, fully developed jowls in quite some time, particularly a wild one. They usually either get neutered and re-released or die young. The vet did say that he is typical of a mature tom in being very affectionate, as long as you aren't another tom. So he may in fact not have been someone's pet after all, just naturally pleasant.

At any rate, the vet explained that there are two responsible choices with Khan. To either put him down, or to keep him as an indoor cat. He said that if there were other cats in the household, as long as they were immunized they would PROBABLY be fine. I suppose Khan could be declawed to make it harder to spread the disease as well. Allowing him to roam freely would be irresponsible. In fact, I won't release him in the bathroom again just in case he took a swipe at one of the kittens. For now he is on the porch in the cat trap. The vet also explained that after being neutered Khan might still spray, particularly if challenged or stressed by other cats in the household.

I just do not see any way I can care for him myself. So, I am open to suggestions. I do expect that you will reply back agreeing that sadly, he needs to be put down. If so, I'll return him to the vet tomorrow afternoon. No use prolonging it. I waited though, in hopes that you might have an alternative. Possibly someone who adopts only FLV cats or something similar? It just really saddens me to have to do it. (and for me, the money for the exam, test, and euthanasia isn't easily spared.)

As far as the kittens, I'll send the pictures tonight. I'd really like to foster the three littlest "wild" ones, the older tamer ones I'll place myself. Already managed to find a home for the mother cat, and probably the oldest kitten. I'll be keeping the next oldest, and that leaves one little fuzzy ball of chutzpa that appeared out of no where last night. Possibly someone knew I was trapping the strays and decided it was a good time to get rid of their kitten.

This was posted on heightsmontrose freecycle and I spoke to the man and offered to post it on here. Someone has given him a trap to help with this wild bunch, and he will start trapping tonight.

Please contact him if you can help. Timothy Poplaski [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The small colony of feral cats in my apartment complex is soon to be captured and taken away. I'm personally taking in three (one to keep, two to place as I can find them homes) of the adult cats that I've managed to partially tame.

That leaves four or five older kittens that are used to seeing people but not hand tamed. With a little TLC they'd make good pets I am sure, and all are healthy
and well fed (by the group of neighbors
that likes cats.) None are fixed, I wish I could offer them fixed and
innoculated but I haven't the ability.

Sometime in the next week or two they are going to be captured and I hope taken to a shelter. They may just be taken away and killed by animal control. Even if they are lucky enough to end up at a shelter, I have little hope for their long term survival because they aren't
hand tamed and no one will adopt a scared and hissing cat.

If anyone is willing to take in one or more, even if to just tame and place into a good home, your help would be apprecaited. Referrals might also be useful.
