Yes, I think you may be right, for FELV (or FIV) positives, probably putting them on the antibiotics immediately makes sense... just make sure it's a very broad spectrum one with few resistant bacteria. Amoxicillin, IMO, is pointless. But for healthy cats not at risk, I think waiting it out makes more sense.
