these are the current UC Davis Vet School's vaccination protocols--annual
vaccinations are no longer considered neccesary for most conditions/cats. as
for rabies, that is determined by locale--if your state or municipality
requires annual vaccinations, and you do not have them and something
happens, they can confiscate and kill your cats....

if you are doing rescue and are bringing cats whose taste in friends is
questionable, then annual boosters of FeLV is probably a valid choice;
otherwise, probably unnecessary.

phaewyrn, is there any RECENT data about VAS and FeLV vaccine since the
early days when the problem was first recognized? i thought that the
adjuvant was identified as the probable culprit and a number of companies
(merial and schering-plough?) stopped using adjuvants in their vaccines; i
also thought that, with the switch to the rotating-leg protocol and the
continued incidence of sarcomas that the thinking had shifted to it being
more of a soft-tissue injury from multiple insults to the same area than
from any specific individual vaccine per se. what are the rate of VAS for
FeLV shots given in the legs since that change has been made?

All 14 of our babies seem to be ok after their testing and FELV shots.
Does everyone feel like cats should get this vaccine every year???? I have
read some controversial stuff on this. These cats do not go outside. Also,
how does everyone here feel about getting rabies shots for indoor cats? Our
vet keeps talking us into these and I just don't feel like they are that
important. Even the other yearly shots they get I often wonder if they are
necessary every year.

I also wanted to ask about our cat Cassie. She is a gray tabby. She is
very high strung. She likes to sit on your lap but if you try to move her
she growls and gets nervous. She has lost some weight lately, but she eats
good. She also has licked herself bald in a few areas. Any ideas? She tested
negative for FELV like the others. I was wondering if there was any good cat
vitamins or anything that might help build her up. I really think she is
always afraid someone is going to pounce on her so she doesn't eat like she
should.
