I must be a very unlucky person because I had 3 and probably 4 cats FeLV.
Only two were related from litters a year apart. The other two cats were not
related to my cats and had recently been adopted. What are the odds of
adopting two cats one from a shelter one from an individual and my own two
cats who were half brother being Felv positive. My cats were indoor outdoor
friendly cats who ate from the same bowls . I also have another cat who is
related from yet another litter, she is negative. The older cats faired the
best. I am talking 7 years or older. I also think at least 2 maybe three
cats had at least one vaccination against Felv that would have been 6 yrs
ago.

I say probably 4 because the 1st cat to die had symptoms and died at the
vet's office after two days of IV antibiotics. He was anemic and jaundiced.
He crashed during the night. He did not know who I was it was heart
breaking. Pumpkin was not tested, but I feel he was FeLV positive. He was
adopted last March.

Junior who was being treated for anemia went back to his vet two days later
bc of my concern about Pumpkin's death being related. Junior who tested
negative about 6 months prior was now positive and had a temp of 106.5.

The other two cats who tested positive were adopted that same year after my
precious Fluffy was PTS for bone cancer. I still have another cat from the
same mother. She was negative. I do not plan to retest unless the other cats
show symptoms. The negs were all vaccinated.

This all occurred last year. I think at least two cats caught the virus from
the others. If not I was unlucky to have adopted two sick cats and have two
sick cats. Just the facts at my household. I don't know if this still fits
your theory.

Junior has his needle aspiration of the lymph nodes tomorrow. Here's hoping
it's just and infection. He is experiencing discomfort.

Junior has been to the vet and is on Baytril. She will call me back later
with results. A cursory exam showed inflammatory tissue and fatty tissue.
She may go ahead and send the needle aspiration off to the lab.

I am having problems with my computer and was not able to send the email
last night.

Keep good thought for Junior.

if anyone out there has any reliable statistics on how many cats
tested negative for FELV,,and then after living with positive kitties
converted i would sure like to know,
i just have this gut feeling that it is so very very few.
i think frequently one cat may be positive and the others never
tested unless they become ill and wow,,,they are positive,,and yet
they may have been positive all their lives but just asymptomatic,
Those are the valuable statistics..those are the statistics that
cause healthy FELV cats to be PTS ( killed)....
most of us here seem to have the experience of no transmission in adult
cats,
The only way to be sure is if a cat was once
negative,,,,,,,,THEN became infected,,,and positive,
