Thanks for the well-wishes everyone! I'm surprised at how happy I am to have this many kitties at once (we'll not really surprised when I think about it). But, I've been keeping my head to the ground when I go out-don't want to put out the cat vibe! I've been kinda blue lately, so this is a real pick-me-up, and I'm so motivated now.
Kelly: I live in Northeast Nebraska. The closest big cities are Norfolk, Nebraska and Yankton, South Dakota. I'm about 3 hours from Omaha, Nebraska. I'm going to try to find something to help out with these expenses! I don't really mind it-it's for a good cause, but it's still a strain on the pocketbook. Diane: I agree--I knew with this last one that I'd have to put the word out. With Cassidy, I know in his horrible condition, that he's not been loved; however, he could have been missing for some time, so I'll put his name out there too, but with his FeLV, I doubt anyone around here will take him. As you can see, I don't have much to say about the generosity of folks in my part of the woods (plains) when it comes to cats. And then with Ashley, I actually know she was living in the beer garden at our local bar. My friend said she was so hungry that she didn't care if he was power-washing the beer garden--she'd still stick it out to get the scraps of food that were dropped during a recent BBQ. Then there's another that lives in the dumpster by the bar--she had babies last year, but she's not tame, and I don't blame her! All those drunks have to be scary! Some day I might try to help her too. So, yes, I'll put out some flyers for a found cat--but I'm going to make people describe their missing babies to me (if I get any calls) and request that the vet bill be paid--unless of course I know the people are responsible. I'd say the only one that probably could have been loved would be this last one; she looks so much better than my other scruffy, skinny kids. But, considering she was outside enough to get pregnant and roam around, I'm not sure how loved she was...we'll see. Thanks for the advice though! I know if one of my precious fur babes escaped and ran off, got lost, etc., I'd hope someone would put out an ad. Chances are slim though that these guys had owners. But, we live in an area that is sparsely populated, so if anyone is missing a friend, I'll find out right away! Ashley is doing better--she was off her nest when I went out just now. She likes to eat in front of me. I just look at this poor scrawny kitty and think about our Smokey. Smokey and Ashley are approximately the same age but completely different when it comes to health. Imagine, if Smokey wouldn't have found us in December, she would look the same as Ashley now. So sad to think what these guys go through...Ashley's got an appearance right now that only a mother could love, but I know she's beautiful inside, what a little jewel. Melissa
