Kelley, You have to do what makes you feel comfortable, but I don't think it matters as much which brand as what ingredients... Does the kitten food have wheat gluten in it? I have a homemade goat's milk kitten formula I've used with great success for bottle babies. I also feed Gypsy, my IBD girl a homemade turkey diet.
