All I can tell you about is the Royal Princess Kitty Katt. She made it very clear that she wanted to leave this world on her own. She had cancers that spread to her lungs..the specialist vets said she would live maybe a couple of months without chemo and maybe 6 months with it...it was a very exacting type of chemo. Her vets and I agreed that we would not put ourselves thru this and (with Kitty telling numerous ACs + me) that she wanted to be left alone, we decided to do just that. Provide what support we could and left nature take its course........which it did about 14 months later. She was very weak. She had difficulty breathing and did not want anything to eat or drink. The last few days she saw the person she had chosen to live with daily and the last day saw her twice (my Mom). The last day she meowed at Mom and did other Kitty like things. I checked on her the last night and she made it plain that she wanted to be alone...........this killed me but I allowed it. She apparently tried to get up off a cold floor (this made her feel better----she had blankets and Snuggle Safes and anything I could think of) during the night and couldn't. There was no sign of a struggle. Just a very peaceful look on her face complete with an "I told you I could leave on my own" look. I do not believe she was ever in any pain. Maybe discomfort but never pain. My alternative vet fixed some "Calling All Angels" for me..........I'm still not sure what it is and I lasered her throat when she would permit. I googled "Calling All Angels" and there is a song by that name that is so very helpful.
This is the link I just found www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/untiltheendoftheworld/callingallangels.htm I hope the song is sung there. It may be sung at http://play.rhapsody.com/janesiberry/wheniwasaboy/callingallangels?didAutoplayBounce=true This really helped me with the Royal Princess Kitty Katt. It was extremely hard to let her do this the way she wanted to but I do not regret it at all. I strongly suggest you talk to her and find out what she wants. If you don't feel up to it (please note I had several ACs talk to Kitty just to make sure) contact an AC. If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow man. I've been searching the web for info on respiratory distress, but can't seem to find what i'm looking for. Kisa's breathing is very rapid and deep, and she has her mouth slightly open most of the time. I can't decide if I should take her in to be put to sleep. I am just wondering if anyone has experience with this, and how long will an animal last in this sort of condition? I am sure she isn't feeling very well at all, but I don't know if she is in pain, or just some discomfort. If this is going to go on for days, I should probably put her to sleep. How will an animal die if the respiratory distress keeps getting worse? Will it be a painful ending, or just a cessation of breathing eventually? Thanks for any input. Cassandra
