Hi Beckie!

Actually, Dr. Gaspar is now in Texas.

She has taken on as full partner w/ my vet, Dr. R.B. Smith in Round Rock,
Texas.

I was just inquiring if anyone had heard of her in Chicago, where she used
to practice.

She is a Feline Specialist, and her husband was a reporter for the Chicago
Tribute.

I am sorry to have gotten your hopes up, because good vets, ESPECIALLY a
Feline Specialist, seem to be few & far between, especially when it comes to
treating felv+.

I live about 3 hours west of Chicago. Please keep me updated on this
vet. I would be more than willing to drive that if it means saving one
of my babies.

Thanks!

Hi All
Good news Pewter my newest acquisition, yeah right that I thought I
would
find her a home, she just had her first series of shots. I am guessing
her
to be nine weeks old pure great and very sweet. No now the vet treats
her
ear mites and worms her, while waiting for the FELK test to be read. He
gave her a shot. He comes back in the room with the test and shows it to
me,
it is blue and says with a smile negative. Ok that is what I expected so
he
is leaving and I asked him about her vaccines, oh he already gave it to
her.
He kind of realized he was caught and said only maybe once did it come
back as positive where he was caught. Oh well, she is negative. GOOD
NEWS.
Junior is now the one shut up.

Oh yes I told him the story about someone thinking I was a cat rescue
person
which is how I got Pewter, and he jokes that it was worse than being
labeled
a terrorist. OK please don't get serious about the comment. It was said
as a
joke.

Onto the next topic. If I were new to this group, I would probably have
quietly dropped out. In my opinion this group helped save Juniors
life.He is
such a happy cat. And I want to thank all of you for that. I am not new
and
I remain for the wealth of information. Now that I have treated junior
for
almost a year, I can add what works for me, It is all about what works
for
one, because it may or may not be the answer for another.

For all you rescue folks Bless you for all your hard work. Maybe I can
only
save one kitten at a time (i now have one at a time), but all of you
that
take only so many needy souls thanks.

OT Micheal Vick did a plea deal and will get Jail time, albeit not near
enough. The world now knows the horrors of dogfighting and maybe will do
some good getting harsher sentences in the future. I am in Richmond
where
the Federal court is. I went online to a local station and read this
just
about the time it happened. I could not post then I was at work. My only
concern is that we still need to pressure the NFL and Atlanta Falcons
into
an expulsion rather than suspension.

I love everyone for their passion even though it does occasionally
create
controversy.

Thanks so Much

Sally, Eric (not a cat),Junior, Speedy, Grey and White, Ittle Bitty,
Little
Black, Lily, Daisy, Silver, and Spike , add Pewter Visit my BB for some
pictures post your as well.

More info from another list.......

The judge presiding over this case, Judge Henry Hudson, is supposedly a
harsh sentencer. The jail time being guestimated now is 12 - 18 months
although he could get up to 5 yrs.

The other people arrested in this scandal turned Vick in for setting up
a gambling ring which could mean worse things for him in the sports
world. Gambling on sport (no, I don't think dogfighting is a sport) is
a huge No No in the sports world.

Ironic, isn't it. He'll do time for the dogfighting but, at least what
is being said now, is that his career may be ended due to the
gambling...At least they got him. He should be forced to set up a
sanctuary for animals and bank roll it for some number of years. That
would be a nice addition to his sentence.

My vet recently took on a partner @ Central Texas Cat Hospital.

She is a Feline Specialist from the Chicago area.

hHname is Dr. Michelle Gaspar, and mostly she did relief work @ the cat
hospitals there and was a major consultant w/ VIN.
(Veterinary Info Network).

She started @ the clinic this week, and I am told she is one of the
nicest people that you could possibly meet.

Has anyone heard of her?

Just curious, Dr. Smith plans to start taking more vacations now, and
she will be seeing my fur children when he is on holiday.

Thanks!

Hi Wendy

Yes she is grey. My unimaginative BF who loves the cats as much as I do
calls my silver tabby grey puddy and wants to call her little grey
puddy. He
also used to have a double yellow head amazon parrot called yellow bird
and
another amazon called red bird. You get the idea. Oh yes just read the
names
below you will see his names in some of the cats. Grey and White is
actually
a dilute calico so she is also tan.

I have a Flower theme I could have chosen from and the name would have
been
ASTER but I decided on the Metal theme so it is Pewter.

Thanks

Sally

Well, this morning my friend Julia brought over my new
fiv+ / felv+ kitty.

She was calling him "Oreo" since he is a tuxie, but that has to go.

She was just out of names, due to so many rescues this year.

I feel her pain..... :(

Anyway, what do folks think about "Percy"?

For some reason when he came outta the carrier the name Percy came to
mind.

Of course, as we all know, he will have several names before it's all
over........ :)

So far, no bloodshed in the felv+ suite.

My cats were appalled @ how he jumped outta the carrier and went
straight for their breakfast, which was chicken & egg whipped souffle'
w/ cheese from Elegant Medleys.........Sprinkled w/ Lysine & Missing
Link PF...... (hey, I would rather them eat something better, but the
Elegant Medleys got started when Serenity was still w/ me. That's all
she would eat along w/ baby food when she was dying. And it works)

Four bowls out, he ate 2, now I will have to put out 5 maybe 6 in the
mornings.

He has the "big" head of a fiv+ tom cat.

But he is sweet as can be.

Miss Princess Naughty Lola peered @ him like he was an oversized insect,
she did not want him to get to close to her feathery baby fine cream &
chocolate furrage..........

Miss Lillian, who actually came from the same hoarder as him, sniffed
him but he was not allowed to sniff her, she growled.

Papillon is mad, hiding in the bathroom, but I think he will be ok,
Percy is so passive.

Miss Ursula, my beeeeoooootiful doll faced Sealpoint, is hiding behind
the couch, that is her comfort zone when she feels like she's being
invaded.

Percy is just so happy to be outta a cage, he was in a cage by himself
in Julia's dry storage building......

He is so people oriented, it must have been hard on him.

This was a good move, and thanks Diane for being supportive of me in
making this decision yesterday.

Now you are up to date, will keep you posted on the latest happenings @
Chez Mew today.......... :)

I wore my new felv+ t shirt that I ordered from our website yesterday
for the first time.

I received several compliments on it, so, I will have to order more.

I am impressed w/ the artwork, the lettering & the quality of the shirt.

Who designed them?

I bought them from the Cafe Press site, along w/ some stickers, which I
have passed out now I need more.

When I am out feeding my colonies, meeting new clients, shopping for
clients or me @ the pets store (hey, that sounds like my whole life) I
always make sure to wear an animal "cause" shirt.

I do have a rule, thou, about this.

I am always on my best behavior when I am wearing someone's logo while
out in public, so that I don't give the "group" that I am supporting
that day a bad image........ :)

Hey, but ya knew I was a loose cannon, right?

Baaaa haaaaaaaa!

Angela,
I'm so sorry to hear about your boy.
Had he been re-tested recently for Felv?
Normally, it is the secodary illnesses that take our Felv kids.
Such as different cancers.
Due to their weak immune systems.
Did he have a biopsy done prior indicate what kind of cancer he had?
How old was your boy?
What are the ages of the kitties living in your house?
I'm sorry for asking these questions but it does have bearing.
If everyone has been together for 3 years you would have seen signs
long
before now if they were infected.
Yes, Felv can lay dormant in the bone marrow even when they are tested
young.
As I know this for a fact. It has happened to one of my cats.
It takes a cold or respiratory illness (URI) to bring it on even though
they
may have tested negative prior when healthy.
That is why when you get kittens from unknown sources they should be
retested every 3 months up to they are adults for accuracy. Adults
should be tested
yearly.
I've had numerous Vets say most tests done as kittens are not accurate.
When there are more than one kitty living in the house when one dies
for
unknown reasons a necropsy should be done by your Vet.
Once again I'm sorry for your loss.
Please take care of yourself.
Your fur-babies are in my thoughts and prayers.

Susan,
What a beautiful description.
What beautiful things you are doing...I am so grateful
to know there are people as kind and thoughtful out
there, making things better for all our little guys.
I have only one little FeLV+ girl, but hang on to
every word of advice and hope that comes from people,
like you, who are so experienced. You have it down,
that is for sure, when it comes to our cat buddies.
They are all so amazing...What fascinates me, so much
about cats, is that they are so easy to read. They
have every emotion we have and no qualms about
displaying them.
I am excited for Percy getting a new life with you.
Keep up the good work.
Just thank you so much!
