Thank you for all of your advice and support. I definately have taken some of
the information in to account and when we go back to the vet on Tuesday I will
mention that I need more information about the kind of anemia he has and ask
about the infectious anemia. I took him to the vet again on Friday afternoon to
get his second dose of epogen and so far he is handling it well. Cole has been
eating on his own thankfully. The vet gave us a special type of wet food that
is higher in protein and calories, so he doesnt have to eat as much of it to
get his nutrition. But he is eating alot more then he had been and we feed him
twice a day and leave the dry food out to munch on. We will have bloodwork
drawn again in a week and a half and see how his blood counts are getting any
better and at that point we will be able to decide on long term care or not.
The epogen shots will something he will have to be on for the rest of his life
if they work, but right now it is a 50 50 chance. He has been a little bit more
active and seems to be jumping on furniture more, which is encouraging. Either
way he is happy and is comfortable, which is all I want for him. As long as he
is comfortable, I will keep up with his cares. The doctor has not mentioned
many other options of care as of yet, so I am not sure what will happen if the
epogen does not work. I was under the impression that if this doesnt work, then
it is the end of the road in treatment. Once again thank you all for your words
of advice, it gives me something to look forward to reading and makes it easier
to deal with knowing there are other people out there that are going through
the same thing and want to help!
