That is very good to know. My experience with FIV has not been good, except for
the last little girl I took from the feral colony and treated with Winstrol.
She seems fine (great coat now, good size, very playful, etc.) but she still
has sounds like she has water on her lungs, though the lungs are clear on xray
– I presume the fluid accumulation is still around the lungs.

I am glad to hear that FIV cats can live a long time.

Hi, FIV is not the horrid disease that some people think it is. I'm glad the
shelter allowed you to adopt these cats. The main thing is that they live
stress-free and have good food, clean water and plenty of love. I did FIV
rescue for many years. Most of the cats lived to be 14 to 16 years old without
any major illness and passed from kidney failure and old age. The best FIV
group is the FIV2 group, if it still exists. I still have one FIV+ cat who was
slated for death at the Humane Society 12 years ago but the adoption
coordinator knew I was aware that these cats could live long, healthy lives so
she called me and we traded one of my adoptable foster cats for the FIV cat she
had at the shelter. As long as your cats are neutered or spayed they won't pass
on the disease, even if they live with cats that do not have it. FIV is passed
on from deep bites during mating and fighting during mating so you really do
not have to keep fixed cats separate. Good luck with your two fur kids.

Both of my babies have FIV, both adopted from shelter. Does anyone know of a
support group I can join to better helpe to help keep my little one healthy as
Iong as possible? I know very little about FIV and this group doesn't address
their issues directly. Thank you for any help and/or advice!!!

I live in Milwaukee and know several good holistic vets
Dr Heidi Meier out of Community Vet Clinic
and Dr. Ali Troutman, I think her clinic is Integrated Vet Clinic
Both are nice vets--I like them both
I use Dr Meier for foster care
and I have been to Dr Ali for several of my own very sick animals. Both are
sweet vets.
