I want to give, "the rest of the story" to the ending of my cat, Kitty.  The
very last post by Kat Parker turned out to be prophetic.  About the time of the
last post by Kat, Kitty got on a large dose program of Depomedrol by my
Veterinarian (Jan or Feb of 2022).  After this was complete he appeared to by
symptom - free.  He had no problems until maybe late 2024 or early this year
(2025).  He started throwing up more (some of it white foam).  He has always
had constipation.  He also had bad teeth, so I thought this was the reason for
the throwing up.This little guy was a real trooper.  He kept carrying on close
to normally (except for the vomiting maybe once a week or more as time
progressed).  He never complained, although he started meowing more (maybe he
was trying to tell me something?)  A month or so ago it got so bad he finally
stopped eating.  He would drink water though.  He must have lost weight, but he
was up every and walking and eating a little bit. His voice got a little more
hoarse as well (I thought from the vomiting, but could have been something
else).  I took him to another Veterinarian close by (my Veterinarian here
retired 2 years ago though; or I would have taken him to her - she had all of
his records and knew him from when he was a kitten.  This other Veterinarian
said he was in kidney failure and gave him epatikin (a phosphorus binder) and a
convenia antibiotic shot.  By this time he had a dark discharge coming from his
nose and eyes, but the trooper he was, he licked it off every morning after his
breakfast.  He started having more trouble breathing as well:  making a almost
snoring sound (and a few times even did the "asthma cough" cats do when they
get down low to the ground and cough for awhile).  He didn't get better after
this, so I took him to a large animal hospital.  They did a chest x-ray and
said he had pneumonia.  Also, when the Radiologist looked at it, Kitty had a
large tumor in his mediastinum (the sac that holds the heart and lungs and part
of the digestive tract in it, etc.).  This was most likely a lymphoma from the
thymus gland and/or lymph nodes around it - the gland that is responsible for
his immune response.  He was too weak to undergo this surgery to take it out.
They sedated him to do a CT scan on him to find the exact location of the tumor
(for possible future chemo and radiation) but he went into respiratory distress
and died (from the sedation) after they tried oxygen and CPR on him.  This was
my decision (sedation and CT scan).  I pushed for it.  I should have just let
him come home on pain meds and probably prednisolone again and die at home here
when he wanted to.  Or could the "magic" Depomedrol (anti- inflammatory) have
shrunk the tumor and cured him again? The Veterinarian said he had blood coming
from his mouth when he died.  She suspected that the tumor had burst.  I am
wondering if he would have died in a few days anyway if the tumor was this
large and finally burst?  Maybe not?  I like this Felvtalk Digest
(@felineleukemia.org).  I just wanted to give this update for research
purposes; and hopefully, something from Kitty's story may help other cats and
kittens with FeLV.  All comments and/or questions are very welcome as well in
this thread.  Thank you very much to everyone who reads this!

Jason what may have happened to you is your cat could have had feline
leukemia and then apparently beat it like a lot of cats do when they?re
very young and their immune system overpowers it but sometimes it gets
depressed and it stays in the body but it?s not active until when they?re
older and something triggers it becomes apparent again. That might be what
happened

Hello everyone,?
This morning I took Kitty to my Veterinarian because he was not eating and
looked like panting breathing beginning to start again, too.? Exactly one month
ago, my Veterinarian gave him IV fluids and a shot of Convenia (the injectable
antibiotic).? He did very well for the last 30 days.? Eating, drinking,
playing, sleeping - he seemed like his old self again.? I am happy about that.?
?I think twice this week though, in the morning just when I got out of bed, I
heard him moaning in pain.? I just know figured out that was the noise he was
making (a moaning sound because he was in pain).? I noticed a small sore on his
nose also.?
The Veterinarian talked to me about prednisone.? She gave him more SubQ (IV)
fluids, another shot of Convenia, and Depomedrol 20mg (20cc shot I think).? He
weighs around 10.5 pounds. I just did some internet research on Depomedrol and
it seems just about the same as Prednisone (possibly a different form of it).?
It said it is an anti inflamatory and also a drug for leukemia, cancer,
arthritis, etc.??
He is home now.? He ate some kibble when he got home and is taking a nap now.??
Comments and suggestions welcome again,?
Thank you very much,?
Jason
