Well..... I was sort of waiting a day or 2 to tell you guys (too much
sadness today), but perhaps we need a bit of good news...
Bandit tested negative on PCR.!!! I'm still sort of in shock (my vet's in
more shock)... I told her today and she said incredulously "how did that
happen?" .. I think it's not been seen before! Anyway, we are sending out
the same blood for a second test to a different lab. If it comes back
negative, the only thing left to determine is if the virus is latent/dormant
in the bone marrow. Bandit was hiding the virus in his bone marrow, but it
was active there and reproducing. If we do a bone marrow aspirate again and
PCR it, and it's negative, then FOR SURE he has thrown off the virus. His
recent blood work would support this diagnosis. I've been pretty emotional
the past few weeks, with all the sadness here and knowing I was getting him
tested again. I am happy, yet sad at the same time for the mommy's and
daddy's who have lost babies these past few months.
Not sure when I'll do this, but probably in the next month. Keep you all
posted.
