Linda, Jamie: the person from the other list who asked how do you remain no kill when
dumped on and full up merely asked what everyone else asked, and Bob just gave the
only real answer - if she didn't like it, she shouldn't have asked, as you can figure
out the answer w/out asking the question. I personally don't think there is such a
thing as "no kill" as inevitably there are cases where you have to euthanize because
there's no hope/because of pain and suffering, so "no kill" is a misnomer, and that's
why many public shelters/animal control don't like it - they may be doing their best
w/ limited resources, but the public still views them as the bad guys because they
can't say they are "no kill." The public supports the "no-kills" because that sounds
better to them. I don't tell people Carolina Cats is "no-kill," but I do explain that
we would only euthanize a kitty if we had done all we could to save it or if it would
suffer and/or die despite all treatment, and that we !
don't euthanize because of age, temperament, behavioral problems, etc. Until there is
a grass-roots mass free/low-cost spay-neuter initiative in this area (and most
everywhere else) however, we are at a point where, until at least 20 or 30 are
adopted, we can't help any new cats.
