Absolutely NOT!!! My Bandit is FeLV- and he is
addicted to chewing fabric - you would not believe how
much he has destroyed! Socks, shirts, blankets,
towels, shoelaces, bedspreads, quilts, etc etc he even
started chewing on my oak futon frame!! Strong little
jaws he has..... <sigh>
He is clinically hyperactive and obsessive/compulsive
and he has been on Prescription W/D since the age of
about 6 months because of the GI problems Smoky was
going through, so the cotton and wool consumption is
NOT a search for more fiber in his diet. I've spoken
with many many vets and feline behavior specialists
and his is one of the most extreme cases many of them
have heard of, but it's a behavioral issue. And I did
not use the word ADDICTED lightly, you should see him!
- he'll be crouched down gnawing on whatever he's got
and his eyes are completely dilated and he's just
somewhere else - self-medicating as it were.
and the really funny thing? there is absolutely NO
difference in his behavior or mood or anything when he
eats catnip!!!
Like it was said before, it can be a strictly
behavioral issue and have nothing to do with dietary
or systemic deficiencies etc
