I am
so sorry about Bobby. I had hoped, along with you, for much better news
from A&M. As hard as it is, you are right to consider offering a
humane death before it becomes a crisis. I wish I had done that for
Ernie instead of holding on to straws.
It is
a hideous disease and strikes so suddenly, or it seems sudden. You remind
us all of the fragility of our kitties' lives. I try to
offer Franklin as much love and play as I can every day, because he could
be gone in a heartbeat.
Meanwhile, I will pray for Bobby and for
you.

I
picked Bobby up from A&M yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately the news
is worse than I thought it would be. He was given a transfusion which
brought his PCV from 14% to 18% (not a very big jump). A bone marrow
aspiration was performed and x-rays taken. Apparently the bone marrow that
is being destroyed by the virus is being replaced with bone. So there is
no hope for a bone marrow transplant because there is no place to put the bone
marrow. Bone is taking over the cavities that are being created by bone
marrow loss. Bobby also has some sort of internal infection. He has
a fever and blood was found in his urine. All A&M could do for him is
give him an antibiotic to eliminate the infection. They told me to
continue the interferon but to stop giving him vitamins because it is just too
stressful for him.
When I
got him home last night he had a good appetite. He did not eat that much
this morning and seemed to have less energy than last night. His mother
(Beatrice) and his sister (Buttons) have been hissing at him and don't want to
be near him.
The
vet at A&M said he might live another month (maybe less), but I am not going
to let him linger in pain. I have contacted my local vet and she will
come over to my house when I feel it is time to put him
down.
This
is very tough. I have to admit that for months I have
listened to many sad stories of illnesses and losses that many of you
in this group have endured, thinking I would not have to go through this
with mine. I thought they were so healthy and because I started the
kittens on treatment at very young ages (2 months), that they would be free of
sickness. I was wrong and I see now they can get very sick very quickly
and very easily. I will never again take the good health of my cats for
granted.

I hope the blond kitty you spotted in your backyard -- the one who looks so much
like Bobby -- is an angel watching over and protecting
Bobby.

prayers.
