Hi Everyone,

I received this post from a friend (Corrie) w/ an FeLV+ cat & she is in need
of advice.  She had tried to join this list, but she had problems getting it
to work w/ her ISP.  What would you advise her to do?  Let me know & I will
forward your posts to her.  Thanks a million!

Yvonne

Hello Yvonne,

It's been awhile since I've emailed you about the little feral cat Josette -
do you remember us?  I need a little advice, if you could run this past your
network of contacts, that would be wonderful.

We've had a pretty good 8 months, all things considered.  She lives in her
own room and has been very healthy until now.

For about a week, she has not been able to keep any food down.  I withheld
all food for a day, then tried feeding her a few nuggets at a time, but as
soon as she eats them she starts gagging and sounds like she's drowning, then
the food comes right back up.

I tried to take her to the vet, but she bit me so hard she just about took my
finger off (no stitches needed, fortunately, but *expensive* antibiotics and
a tetanus shot).  The vet can't handle her to examine her.  So she's back in
her ferret cage for now.

My fear is that this is the fe-leuk kicking in and that she isn't going to
get better.  I don't want to take her back to the vet at all because it is
such a traumatic ordeal and gets worse every time. I can't sedate her ahead
of time because I can't handle her that well, and besides, she's not keeping
anything down anyway.  On the other hand, how humane is it to let an animal
starve to death?

I am most grateful for any advice you can offer.  She's safe and relatively
comfortable for now.

Thank you for your help,

Corrie Thompson

"Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but
to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission - to be of service to
them whenever they require it..If you have men who will exclude any of God's
creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will
deal likewise with their fellow men."
