Well, Tuesday I picked up my two new kitties.
Cream is a big light orange tabby (just like morris only a lighter orange).
Cream is still hiding in/under everything. Michael has been re-named
Mittens. He is an orange & white cat - - tall & skinny - - skinny because he
still hasn't stopped bouncing off the walls. He's the loverboy of the two
and really getting on Miss Cruizer's nerves.
I have a little dilema that I hope some of you could offer suggestions.
I brought the two new ones into the basement where I had been keeping the
kittens (who were totally healthy by the way). Cream wouldn't come out of
the carrier, Mittens was all over the place. I got Cream to come out and
held him and got him purring.
I tried for a meet & greet playtime in the living room. Cruizer wasn't
thrilled but watched from the couch. Cream sat in the recliner and wouldn't
budge. Mittens began tearing through the house.
I went and made myself dinner - in the next room - come back and where's
Cream? Found him hiding under the couch but couldn't reach him. I opted to
sleep in the living room that night in case of a fight. Cruizer stayed with
me and only got angry when Mittens tried to snuggle up to me. She hissed and
he went away. I think she's more than a bit territorial about me.
Next morning Cream wouldn't come out from behind the stereo and rather than
scare him more I opted to let them all be together. For the most part
Cruizer is in her own world, Cream is hiding and Michael is in his own
places.
Wednesday night: problem-o. Cream is still in hiding behind the couch now
and my hand gets scratched up when Cruizer goes nuts because mittens wants to
sit on my lap too.
I'm thinking she's way jealous so I bring her food/water & litter box into
the bedroom and lock us in for the night - - I figure she'll see I'm still
her mommy and start to feel better. Things went well in the morning.
Tonight, another problem: cannot locate cream just yet (got to check under
the sofabed in a few minutes). I put Cruizer on my lap and Mittens just
walks by and she goes after him.
I put her in the bedroom for a time out. I'm letting her out in 5 minutes.
Does this ever help? What more can I do to help them get along? I've loaded
them up with catnip and had playtime and Cruizer is still not a happy kitty.
Mittens is incredibly friendly and I'm sure he wants to be her friend and I'm
trying to keep him a little more laid back so she won't think he's such a
threat.
Anyway, I'm off to find cream. I appreciate the advice I'm sure you have.
Rachel, Miss Cruizer, Cream & Mittens.
