Hi Tonya -

Thanks so much - yes she is!  You know, I tried everything for her URI.  She wasn't eating for several days, and I was using a syringe to give her stuff.  At some point she was barely moving.  I tried -
        *Clindacure
        *Keflex
        *Lysine
        *vitamin C
*Salt water wash and castor oil
        *Slippery Elm
        *Hydrastatis homeopathic remedy,
*Sub-Q fluids to keep her going
        *and more...

At some point , she started eating again.  I think after she had a combination of things, as the Lysine and Vit C took care of most, then the Keflex, then the Salt water eye bath + castor oil drops.

She's looking good, but still fragile. I'm delighted.  She's not where she once was - used to sleep in a chair before this bout.  Now, after the bad stages of the URI, she doesn't climb any more, but sleeps either on a heated pad or next to an electric radiator.

At her worst, she was sick and I was too, so it was a mess!  But we're both better now, so another of her 9 lives!

With this one, the vets were of marginal help, but did supply me with stuff, so am grateful for that.

Thanks a million - this is a great list, and it's helped me a lot.

Lisa, Glenda, Tally, Tonya, and all who responded about Lucy -

Lucy's doing much better - I've had her on Vit. C and Lysine (500 mg split
in 2 doses daily), as well as cod liver oil, Vit E, occasional
neosynephrine, and a bit of Clindacure. I'm giving her sub-Q fluids, and
almost forgot - need to give her some this morning.

The acupuncture vet came yesterday afternoon and treated her and suggested
the sub-Q fluids. The homeopathic vet said try not to use the Clindacure,
but it seemed to help the symptoms when she was so.o.o bad so I used it
then. I read th! at Clindacure does something with protein, and maybe that's
it, since Herpes is affected by protein/amino acids. I had gotten it from
the regular vet after the Amoxil didn't help.

Last night she was real hungry. This morning she demanded food and gobbled
it up. She's almost blind now, possibly from the herpes - I've read it
affects the eyes and can cause corneal ulcers like my friends cat Smokey
had.

Lucy is 18 and fragile in some ways but a tough kitty in others, and for
the time pulling thru!!! Wish I had been more aware of Herpes and it's
symptoms before. She's had a URI for a LONG time, and adding some lysine
to her daily routine might have helped. I just never paid attention to
what those vaccinations were that they used to get, and what the symptoms
were, and that the sniffles might be serious...and I didn't have a feline
mailing list to talk to.

Anyway, thanks so much - without the help of this list, I wouldn't hav! e
known about Lysine and Neosynephrine, and Lucy might be dying, so she now
seems to be on another of her nine lives - yeaa!
