I could be wrong, but I thought that echinacea's
ability to treat or prevent respiratory viruses
(basically, "colds") has recently been questioned a
bit. I've always read that it's not good to be on
echinacea long term. What I would do, if your kitty
has chronic respiratory problems, is check to see if
it's the herpes virus that's causing your problems. If
it is the herpes kind of URI, then l-Lysine would be a
good choice. When my kitties are battling URI's that
appear focused in the eye area, I use lysine, 500mgs a
day, the capsule opened up and the powder sprinkled on
their food. I use one capsule per kitty. If it's a
kitty with chronic herpes URI problems, you could do a
maintenance dosage of lysine: 250 mgs a day. l-Lysine
is fairly inexpensive. I use the NOW brand, which has
been really successful with my guys. If the URI seems
to be extra tough to beat, I also do the chicken soup
forcefeeding (if the kitty won't eat on his/her own).
I can vouch for the seemingly-miraculous properties of
chicken soup and lysine in combination. ;-)

I've also used Pet-Tinic, and it's been a real help
with sick kitties.
