This got me to laughing because my husband pretty much says the
same thing.  He's learned to tolerate and, he'd never admit this
openly, actually enjoy being surrounded by pets.  When I moved
Smokey into our bedroom, I thought I might be pushing it, but
he's even taken that without complaint.  I never dreamed my
husband, a former cat-hater would allow one to share his bed. 
:-)  About the only objection my husband has ever made about my
tendency to adopt helpless animals was that I should never bring
home a pot-bellied pig, that that would be carrying things too
far.
