Hi Jill,
I wish I had some good suggestions for you & Jack. The only thing I can
think of with the fur parting is that it means there is an illness. This
may sound flippant, however, when we see this symptom with the shelter
cats display the parted fur symptom, it is an indication that something
is not right. The only thing other than that is that Jack may be
slightly dehydrated. Can you check for that by taking your thumb and a
finger and lifting the skin up a few inches between his shoulder blades
and then twisting it a bit. When you release it, if the skin recedes
slowly as opposed to kind of snapping back into place, it is an
indication that he really needs to have some subQ fluids. Other then
that, if his ears are are warm to the touch (more than is usual for him)
it could indicate a fever. Has his appetite decreased. His water intake
decreased or increased. How is his urine and fecal output? These are
things that you could keep a very close eye on and if you think he
should go back to the Vet, this information may help to lead to what is
causing the symptoms.

Hopefully someone will have some other suggestions for you and Jack.

Take care,
Glenda
