Del, Effie sounds cute and I love the name that is really adorable.
Sounds like you have your hands full with your other cat. I have a fiv cat that has been with all my cats (didn't know she was fiv till 2 years ago). She mingles freely but she is non aggressive so I guess that make the difference. I hope she tests negative for you next time. Rescued a 3 month old kitten fm the brush and dumpster behind a gas station two weeks ago. She tested FeLV+ on the snap test - is that considered the ELISA test? Tested with blood. At present she seems healthy, eats well, and is a good weight. Her name is Effie, a very sweet long-haired Torti. She looks awful now because her hair is matted beyond trimming or combing out - will need to be shaved eventually. She is confined to the heated garage with a huge crate with the comforts of carrier, litter box, two shelves, scratching board and ping-pong ring, food and water of course. She likes her little home and goes back to sleep or play in there even while having free-time in the garage. It has been a joy to watch her make friends with us and play and begin to wash her face. Not feral but very distrusting of people. We have 12 indoor-only, altered cats, one is FIV+ presently healthy. One has his own bedroom and breezeway because he wants to kill the other cats; there is a screen door on to the hallway. In the late afternoon the other cats go to the family room and enclosed back porch while he gets to run around in the "big house"...screen door on the family room, too. So far she is only on 250 mg Lysine and no other supplements. I'm reading and learning what to do next, I want to give her the best she can have for her little life...of course, hoping the next time she might test negative.
