Tonya; what you have to do is send a new e-mail to the group--I agree with you; many times the original subject is days old; and we arn't discussing that subject anymore, and the e-mails  which are sent back and forth send a very misleading message. Everybody listen up!!  Helene

Hi Jamie, Tonya, Pam - think I missed the original - so I'm going back to make sure I get the original message about Jamie! :)

Hey Jamie,

Don't you wish someone would change this subject line? instead of us all continuing to post, and post, and post using it???

Amber, a vet I used to go to recommended it for one of my young cats with
stomatitis, Hershey, but we never did start with it - it was not inexpensive,
and there were concerns about it during the "mad cow disease" big scare. It
is supposed to be helpful if the stomatitis is middling, but not severe -
Hershey's was just in one area of the back of his mouth, and once we finally
decided (with a different vet) to remove a couple of teeth, he is much, much
better - it had caused him to have pain when he ate just in this one place -
he'd actually yelp in pain. Now he's eating fine, the redness is almost all
gone, and he's gained weight and his coat is much better. Smokey, another
one I have with very severe stomatitis, has wonderful teeth for his age, and
at this point I'm reluctant to pull them and so is my vet unless nothing else
works. Antibiotics ! always help them temporarily, even if only a bit, but as
soon as you stop usually the redness worsens and the discomfort comes back.
A friend is having success using periactin on one of her stomatitis cats who
has been on pred for years and developed a Cushings-type condition because of
it. She's off steroids and on periactin only, plus pulsed antibiotics - in
only two weeks of periactin, she's had a marked improvement. I think I'm
going to try it on Smokey before going to pred - she only gives Delilah 1/4
of a pill of periactin twice daily - I think I can get Smoke to do that
easily in food, maybe even pill him since it's so tiny and usually they don't
get too much of a bad taste in the mouth with it (unlike the bitter pred).
