Subject: Re: Gloria: blackberry tea for constipation or diarrhea
Thanks for the GREAT info, and for asking about my guys.
Today was a frustrating day. I've had an appointment in Hot Springs with the vet who administers acupuncture and ozone. I did one of those stay-up-late nights, then got up at 6:15 to walk with a friends. Then I fed MBK at 7:30, and packed him up at 9:30 to go on the car trip to the vet.
MBK threw up and pooped in the carrier when we were about 15 minutes from home. Hot Springs vet is about 1 hr 15 minutes away. I took the paper towels out of the car yesterday. Grrr.
The smell decreased as I got closer to the vet.
When I got to the vet, I found out that the vet was in Florida, and a sub was there, who didn't do acupuncture and ozone. I went back to the car and cried a few tears. Grrr.
By that time I was getting hungry and sleepy, and MBK, having vomited and defacated all of his food, was hungry too. I stopped and got a veggie burger at this great Country Store, and shared it with him. I looked for some FOS, but they didn't have it, so got some Colostrum (they had it on sale). THey also had SOD and DMG (SP?) but only enteric coated caps. They had no blackberry tea, but put it on the list to order.
On the way home I kept slapping myself and flexing various muscles to keep from falling asleep - MBK slept great.
Got home - a somewhat wasted 3+ hours, except for the colostrum, which does seem to have a strangely positive affect - I'll know more tomorrow. Have you ever used it?
Anyway - Whew! Glad to be home!
Gloria

No idea why this is happening. But we have used blackberry leaf tea to get
this under control.
Blackberry leaf from a health food store, or last years over wintered
leaves will work. If you have green leaves where you are they also work.
Make tea in the regular way, cool it down and squirt it down the cats
throat.
On blackened over wintered leaves avoid any leaves with white mold
visible, or if they are too crumbly.
We have used this cure on our 20 year old GrandMa Gray who has diabetes
with no ill effects, and it stops her diarrhea. You might need two or
three doses afew hours apart. But we hardly ever need that much.
We told our vet about this cure and she said she might try it herself. So
no red flags anyway.
Oh, the same leaves also cure constipation. Ah nature!! Dont believe it?
Try it next time your in need. Its better than ANY OTC drug for this.
2nd email with dosage:
Dena says she draws up 3cc's in a syringe
twice for a full size cat. (That's two squirts if the kitty will allow it)
This is about two tablespoons we think.
For a kitten, we would use less. Maybe one 3cc squirt in that case.
Blackberry leaf tea is really pretty safe. So in the case of a diarrhea
emergency you can be a little more aggressive.
Amazingly it "knows" when you need relief from constipation instead of the
other way! This is one of the wonderfull but unexplained things with
herbs.
Next time you (humans) are in need of relief from diarrhea or constipation
try it on yourself. You will then be crowing about it like I am now.

This will give you the confidence to try it on a cat.
Good luck,
Carla
BTW I have yet had to try it Bamama has had regular stool since she has been home from her spleen was removed and with her now drinking more from hyperthyroid she is fine in going at least right for now.
How are your guys going? Haven't had a poop report in awhile.
