Jenn-do you mean a 1000 cc bag????? Ringer's solution itself is
fine(balanced electrolytes)--------the interferon powder is compatible with
that, rather than with saline; my concern is that I get 30cc of interferon
(powder mixed with Ringer's and albumin for stability) for two months (7
days on, 7 days off, one cc each day, so that Sammy gets approximately 14 cc
a month. The 30 cc vial expires after 2 months!! I pay $33.00 for the 30
cc. I am concerned that if you have a 1000cc bag, it cannot possibly keep
its strength (and what is the strength?) and stability after 2 months or so,
and a 1000cc bag would last forever!!! I think that you really need a
second opinion on this----- maybe from another vet, or, preferably, from a
compounding pharmacy-you can find them on line--but I am concerned!!!!

Subject: You guys are not going to believe this!

You know how I said I was going to go back and pick up my Interferon at
the vet because he was mixing it there, and it had to defrost? Well, I
had paid $8.00 up front, and I was expecting a little bottle of the
stuff, I went to pick it up this afternoon, turns out it was $16.00.....
but get this.... IT'S A WHOLE BAG! I got a whole lactated ringers bag
full for $16.00. Now, I have a couple questions. First one being, I
thought it was supposed to be made with Saline Solution, not Ringers, do
you guys think that makes any difference? Is it OK to feed Ringers
orally? Next being, do you think it's safe to use? I mean, they gave me
a whole bag for $16.00, they CAN'T possibly know what they are doing. I
went to the pharmacy after I left the vet's just to see if I really had
ripped them off as bad as I thought I had, and the Roferon-A
prescription is $90.00. Mind you, it's a VERY dilute solution of that
drug that is in this bag, but still.... I almost (almost) feel guilty
for getting such a deal, and am finding it hard to accept. Certainly
this MUST be too good to be true. Next question, how much of this stuff
will I be able to use for 2 cats before it spoils? It will keep in the
fridge for what, 3 months tops?
Well, anyways, I just dosed my guys, and while they didn't seem to LIKE
the taste, they didn't fight too hard or gag, so it must not be too bad.
I can't say that I've ever tasted Ringers. I suppose I could try the
stuff.... it IS a human drug in the first place, and it's very dilute.

What do you guys think???

Jenn
