I went down the street for coffee this morning, and one of my neighbors said that they have 2 FIV+ kitties.  Said they're giving them Keflex every night, and they've improved a lot.

So.. since Mr. Black Kitty's FELV/FIV/IBD, I decided to try it.  Bought $20 worth of Keflex (brother).  ASked the vet about stool (fecal) tests.  She said they have two tests:
        1) a flotation test, and
        2) a direct (?) test.

THey tested MBK twice, using the direct test, which she said tests for round worms, and campylobacteria.

Are there other fecal tests?

Gloria, have you had his poop analyzed in depth?  Ha, ha - seriously,
sometimes a regular fecal can't pick up stuff like salmonella, campylobacter
and some other less common things that could cause diarrhea, especially in an
immune-compromised kitty.  Might be worth have a lab analysis done if you
didn't already.  It's probably just the virus and condition of his intestinal
system and overall malabsorption, but those problems actually allow bacteria
that are normally in the intestines to sometimes grow out of control.  One
theory about cholangiohepatitis, that our little Caressa just died of,
involves overgrowth of bacteria backing up through the bile ducts, so who
knows with FIV what could go on in there?  Has he been on metronidazole?
What about pred, which is the standard treatment for IBD and is also used to
help other FIV symptoms?  On the other hand, you have to be careful with pred
because of diabetes and even, possibly, Cushings.  Like MBK didn't have
enough problems already!!!
