Karen, will he eat the meds in his food - maybe try a little at a time till
you can get him to take all in food. I give my Smokey all his meds this way
and he scarfs them up - he isn't positive for anything, but does have
horribly bad gums. He gets pau d'arco and echinacea (immune system
boosters); l-lysine; a vitamin pill with omega fatty acids, which are good
for bad gums; Clavamox antibiotic; CoEQ10 (also known to be good for gums,
even in humans); periactin (a/k/a cyproheptadine), not for appetite
stimulation - his appetite is great - but because a friend found something on
the net indicating it helps gum problems and is giving it to her gum problem
kitty with success; he also gets Mega-C. I put all this in canned food with
water to make it sloppy. I crush the lysine, periactin and the vitamin. For
some cats, this might be too much in their food, but Smoke doesn't seem to
care! Have seen some improvement after 2 weeks on this regime (have been
working on him a while - before he got all this we didn't have much success -
vet wants to put him on pred but I want to try these other things first).
