Hi Carla,

I know what you mean; I've seen reports like that when the lottery gets
very high and I always get a kick out of people saying they'd travel,
because I was thinking, gee, with that kind of money I'd never leave home
and I could take a lot more animals because I'd have time and money!!

Julie,

Yes we agree. This should make you laugh.

When the big game was up to over 125 million. I was watching tv
and they asked people what they would do with the money.

Just about everyone had travel on their list. So the news person
said I guess that what most of us would do.

I laughed and when I went to work I told someone and told them
why I laughed cos what I would have done:

1.) go to petsmart pay to have the table removed where the cat
lived (that we just caught last month) after 2 years running loose
and wild in the store then pay to put a new one since they would
never let me tear it down to catch Renagade.

2.) Adopt the fosters I have now and stop looking for a home for
them.

3.) There is a special needs kitty that looks alike like Charmed in
SC. I saw him on petfinders. I would drive down and if he had some
of Charmed's traits I would adopt him and care for him the way I
want to not worrying about the money.

4.) Give some money to some shelters and groups with animals.

5.) Adopt at least 5 or handicapped or special needs kitties.

Funny I thought I didn't think of anything for myself Oh I guess I
would have to get a bigger house for all this.

Carla

Dear Carla,

Isn't it a shame that it really, truly, comes down to money? It
breaks my
heart when I think of all the good that could be done if only those of
us
who were willing to do it could afford to! I think the lottery could be
put to much better use if one of us won it!!

And, at least 5 of the cats that I inherited when a neighbor was
evicted
were the result of pregnancies that she would not terminate
'because
abortion is wrong'; yeah, but I guess leaving dependent, companion
animals
to fend for themselves (or, knowing somebody will clean up your
mess)
because you're an irresponsible leech is OK.

Gggrrrrr.....

So, we're agreed, right? We have to win the lottery!

Julie

Julie,

You and me both. I have a dream to have a rescue or a home for
special needs kitties.

It could take a lot of money at times so you really need to be ready
for the unexpected. I always knew this and still would like to do this
but after going through the cost with Bamama just in a few months I
really did realize you have to be prepared.

I really wish there were more rescues that do open their hearts to
special need cats in NJ there are not too many. I think it is sad due
to they seem to be more loving or "special" which really does
discribe them very well.

I too also agree with you about aborting. Even though it is sad if
you can I believe in doing it. The group I work with doesn't feel that
way at least most of them. But every early summer they are so
overwhelmed with kittens and finding good homes is so stressful
that they tend to forget the older kitties that didn't get a home last
year when they were cute and fuzzy. Not everyone but many do
and I feel it is a shame.

I always will have taking care of the of unwanted on my things to do
list if I win the lottery.

Carla

Hi Alicia,

What was the vet planning to do today? Is he going to spay the
Mom or is he
going to euthanize her? I have to say that when I find a pregnant
female
who is not so far along that she can still safely be spayed, I do it
and
abort the kittens. I would do this whether she were FeLV+ or not. I
know
it may seem cruel to some, but my own philosophy is that it is
kinder in
the long run. I have had KITTENS that I could not place; sweet,
fun
kittens and nobody wanted them. If an appealing kitten is passed
over,
what luck does a busted up old tom cat with no teeth, a limp and a
crossed
eye have? The sad fact is that these kittens are likely to succumb
to this
horrible illness before their 2nd birthday.

If you can get Mom spayed, what about Best Friends Animal
Sanctuary? The
do have a special area for FeLV cats. They recently got some
good press in
People magazine and it put me in mind of suggesting it as a
forever home
for some of these FeLV, FIV, babies that cannot be placed. I know
that I
would be willing to kick in for transportation costs if they would take
them.

If I could afford it, I would take these cats in a heartbeat; my dream
is
to someday have a small (or big if that money-printing-in-the-
basement
scheme works out!) rescue specifically for special-needs cats.

I know how hard this must be for you; take care and I hope things
work out.

Julie
