Thanks, thanks, thanks, Julie!!! I have been to the home page alot, but (stupid me) never noticed the archives-just went there; not looking for anything in particular, just nice to know its there. So great!!
(you know,I might just mention this to all of you)--Sammy, who is 10 and felv+, has a little area on his back about 1 and 1/2 inches long by a 1/2 inch wide, where the hair has thinned out and I can see gray skin underneath. He is a sealpoint siamese whose fur turned white when he was acutely ill(yes!) and then gradually turned back a nice siamese brown. The area is not flaky, scabby, reddened, growing any bigger, nor does Sam lick it or try to reach it to scratch. It is just THERE.About a month. Delilah, his 11 year old Mom, doesn't have any such areas; I don't have ringworm, either. I take the kitties out in the backyard under strict supervision for about an hour a day. I printed out a good article on ringworm......... I will have to ask the vet to make a housecall, as the stress of going in a carrier in the car would probably cause Sam to come out of remission; he freaks out so badly. Anyhow, it is time to draw a blood panel to see where we are. Kevin, my vet, has to sedate Sam in order to do this and anything else invasive. I know that you can take hair samples and put under a scope to check for organisms......... Any other thoughts, you'all ??????????? dry skin? what could it be? Also, it is time for Delilah to get her 3 year rabies vaccine. She is felv-. Is it really necessary? Sam gets no vaccines. Go to www.felineleukemia.org homepage: Feline Leukemia Support Information and Treatments to help FeLV+ cats. There's a bar right underneath (can't copy it) that says: HOME TEXT ONLY FELV FUND ARCHIVES In the center of the page is this: Search the FeLVTalk Archive click on it, and it will bring up this: Choose which time period of the archives you'd like to search: Archives- 1/98 through 6/98 (Temporarily Unavailable Archives- 7/98 through 1/99 Archives- 2/99 through 9/99 Archives- 10/99 to the present I ususally go with the 10/99 to the present and if I don't find hits then select other periods. Also, on the prior page, where you click on the search, the archives are listed by month from 1998-2000, so if you happen to know what you're looking for, you can click right there. Once you've selected the period you want, it's like any other search engine, just put in the info you're looking for and click away! If you have any problems, let me know and I'll help you out! Thanks to all who maintain the archives; what a fantastic resource! I have nothing to add, except that Heinz has expanded its baby meats to include ham, turkey, and a couple more. No onions listed in ingredients. Also try small amounts of chunk light tuna(People)(in oil for added fat) or water. Interferon is a must, as are fluids!!!! Julie, as long as I have been on this list, I have never gone to the archives! Can you direct me??? It sounds like both cats could benefit from the liver shake; you can find the recipe by searching through the archives. You can also try giving them just plain raw chicken liver; when Chappy could not eat anything else, he would eat that. Also, ask your vets about starting them on Interferon immediately. Vitamin C is helpful, as is George's (the brand name; you can purchase at health food stores) aloe vera juice; you just add to water or give it by syringe. If they are dehydrated, a course of fluids is a must; you can tell by pulling up the skin at the scruff of their neck into a 'tent'; a hydrated cat will have the skin quickly fall back into place and smooth out. A dehydrated cat will have the 'tented' skin kind of stay in that shape for a few seconds and slowly fall back down against the body. Another good food option is baby food; get Gerber or Beechnut 'Chicken and Broth', check the label, you don't want anything with onion powder as that will contribute to anemia. The foods mentioned are just pureed chicken and water. Also, distilled water is a good choice for an immune-compromised cat; there will be absolutely no bacteria and it is also devoid of minerals that could put a strain on the kidneys (these babies need everything easy on the body). I don't want to give you false hope; sometimes you reach the point where it is time to let them go because you truly have exhausted all options. You all sound very committed to your pets and I think you're wonderful for not following the PTS advice without TRYING something! There are cats who have rallied and overcome these crisises. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I send you hugs and healing vibes. Also, anemic cats need the healing energy of the colors red and orange according to an herbalist I consulted for Chappy. Can't hurt, might help. Buy a red towel for them to lie on and love, love, love them. Take care of yourselves and know you are not alone. She is barely a year old. She was diagnosed last week and and the vet was also suggesting putting her to sleep if she seemed to be suffering. She seemed to rally a couple of days ago and I was forcing her to eat. Now she seems more lethargic than usual and her glowing eyes are sunken. Please let me know what you find that works for Skunk and I will try it with Serra. I'm new to this list, just found it. We have a very sick 3-year old tom cat, name is Skunk. The vet told us yesterday that he was very anemic, had FIV and FELV, and had only days to live. She wanted to put him to sleep, but we just could not do that. Right this minute he is laying on our bed, barely breathing. He has been like this for over 24 hours. Is there anything we can do to make him more comfortable? Does anyone know of anyone treatment that we might try? The vet had given up, maybe we should do so, too. But he still purrs when I pet him and it is tearing us up to see him like this. Any thoughts are appreciated! Hank and Sherryl in Indy Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Autos - Get free new car price quotes
