Nicky has chronic constipation. Enemas were stressful for him. Now, when he has a crisis, I use Lactulose and also use Vitamin C powder mixed with Water (I use about 500 mg in water in a 3cc oral syringe). Just FYI, Vit C is great for loosening the stool. Also I give him sub-q fluids, laxatone, and homeopathic remedies. Once he's pooped, I take it easy for a couple of days, then back to morning slippery elm, mid-day Vit C or Lactulose, and evening Laxatone. FYI -Gloria and all,
My son's cat Fu, just had an enema at the vet's yesterday. He was so impacted that he cried most of the previous night. Fu is 16 and in remission from cancer of the small intestine. He is also
weak and stressed out from a long road trip. After his trip to the vet he stayed in my closet
all night and was so inert that we thought of taking him to the emergency clinic for animals.
This morning he is lying by his water bowl but won't drink or eat. I am going to the vet to
pick up some sub-q fluids and a can of A/D.
What would you recommend as a next step?
(my son is staying with me temporarily with a 5 month-old shepherd mix
puppy who is
chasing my own 6 cats, I don't think he'll hurt them but it's not good
for my peace of mind
or theirs. He yells at the pup to make him behave, but I don't think
that is necessary and it just
upsets us all including poor Fu. My son says I don't understand how
to discipline dogs.
Thank heavens the puppy starts obediance classes tomorrow night. He
also has yellow lab
and wolfhound in him, I kid you not, you can see that in the conformation
of his head, he's
a big puppy. I'm trying to be tactful with my son, who is heartbroken
over a romance
gone bad - that's why he moved back to town.
Thanks for any ideas.
stressed out in Madtown,
Bonnie
