Dear Hank & Sherryl, I am so sorry to hear you lost Skunk. It sounds like you loved him and made the best choice in the interest in Skunk by not letting him suffer. Again I am deeply sorry for your loss Carla Dear Hank and Sherryl, I am so very sorry about Skunk- the blessing is that he is free of pain and happy at the bridge. Do add him to the Monday night candlelight service. I know everyone is glad that you will remain on the list-we all derive alot of comfort in knowing we have support here, as well as help and knowledge. Keep the list posted about the test results on your other babies. We received several good suggestions and references. We decided to have Skunk put to sleep Wednesday afternoon, since he was crying and seemed to be in much pain. However, we have two other cats and need to have them tested soon. We will continue to remain with this list and maybe can help someone else someday. Again, all of your responses were deeply appreciated! How much it is going to help would depend on whether or not the anemia is nonregenerative (meaning red blood cells are no longer being produced). In this case, a transfusion would only offer short term relief. Otherwise, a transfusion may just pull him through this crisis. He may also need oxygen at this point to boost oxygen levels in his blood. However, this would mean going to the vet, which may be more stressful to him than just being in his own home. Another thought is to get him tested f! or hemobartinella, which is treatable, but can make a cat very, very sick. Jamie can tell you more about this, since she experienced this with her cat. If you feel this vet is not being proactive enough, by all means try another vet, a feline specialist would be the best if you have access to! one. To locate one near you, go to: http://www.aafponline.org/directory/directory.html. A lot of vets are in the dark ages about FeLV & FIV, so sometimes you really have to push to get them to work with you. Also, check out our lists' treatment page at: http://www.felineleukemia.org/treatmnt.html. I will be keeping little Skunk in my prayers.
