I realized this is
an off the list question but the post about the rats reminded me of a peculiar
experience of my own and I wanted to ask about it. I guess it's kinda off
the wall too now that I think about it.
A while back my
daughter had a pair of rats. They were in an aquarium with a special
rat/hamster top. The cats could see em but not get them, much to the cat's
dismay.
One day I realized I
hadn't seen one of the rats for a few hours and started looking into the
cage. Imagine my surprise to discover the rat dead - and busted
open! It looked like it had started to turn itself inside out!
There were no chew marks and no blood so I couldn't blame the other rat.
It was just mysterious and gross.
Fortunately this
happened while my daughter was at her dad's house so I was able to dispose of
the evidence w/o her seeing.
However, does any
one know what happened? I didn't want to chance that it would happen again
so I gave the other rat away to a pet store where they have told me since that
she is a happy mother. They had no clue what had
happened.
My daughter is
eyeing pets in the rodent family again - I told her the same thing as I told her
with the snake - sure thing - at your Dad's house! But for future
reference, - is spontaneous blowing up a normal rat thing?
Anybody?
