Terri- I agree. I have been so busy lately that my patients is more thin than normal. On the way to obedience class I saw the SAME dead cat- orange and white, looks like Barney- in these people's YARD. I think it must have been hit by a car, but it was up in the yard just off the curb. So on Wednesday I stopped and went to the door. This man came to the door and I asked what the deal was with that cat and he said he didn't know and it wasn't his. So I was like "well, if you can't muster some sense of compassion for the poor cat and at least get it's body out of your yard, could you at least show some concern for the safety of your kids?" He had about 6 or 7 kids playing in the yard like it was nothing, all running around this poor cat. He started to respond and I just said "look, I have seen this cat for 2 weeks now and you have done nothing. There is no excuse. Don't say a freakin' word to me about it. Just do something about it!" On my way home from class I drove by a! nd it was gone.
Yesterday on the way to volunteer I saw TWO dead dogs on the road and two strays wandering around. I can hardly stand it anymore. The problem just seems to get worse. Then to field the phone calls at the shelter was a bad idea. I actually said, more than once, "no, we don't have room for your dog/cat. If we had room I wouldn't have had to leave the two stray dogs I saw on the side of the road this morning. We have no room, animal control has no room, the SPCA has no room. There are too many cats and dogs without homes. Yours has one. Don't add it to the already overwhelming problem we have." Then I took myself off phone duty and went and hung out with the cats. Again I am reminded why I like the cats better than people. Grrrrr.... Jamie
