Hi Everyone,
Paulie is in the hospital and we aren't quite sure
what's going on. He didn't want supper Sunday night
and I couldn't find him Monday morning (he's a
creature of habit and is always on his 'roost').
During my search he finally appeared but would not
eat. My husband was home yesterday (that's a whole
'nother story; anyone want to adopt a 45 year old
natural blonde, most original parts, very high
mileage, 49 cats?) and he said he just slept all day.
When I got home, he let me pet him (bad sign) and felt
warm. He mustered the energy to run when I tried to
pick him up, but finally caught him and got him in to
the vet. He's got a fever and is having diarrhea; Kim
says the majority of what he is passing is not fecal
material, but lots of mucous and flecks of tissue
which is likely part of his intestines sloughing off.
He tore! out his catheter and is terrified. I told her
this morning that if there was no contraindication, to
keep him lightly sedated because the stress he feels
is surely making whatever is going on worse. Kim is
going to do some research (I have been too, but not
too successfully) about feline herpes sometimes
causing intestinal problems; she remembers something
vague from
vet school. The poor guy; I am so worried and sad for
him.
This comes on the heels of my husband's interception
of a phone call from American Express wondering why
our bill wasn't paid....well, 'cause I've been
juggling that's why. So, we had an very unpleasant
conversation about the toll the cats are taking on our
financial situation....every credit card we have is
maxed out, over the limit, you name it.
And then he told me that Lydia (the woman who dumped
pregnant Princess with me; just as a foster and she
would pay for everything....2.5 years ago! ) showed up
at our house, announced she was bi-polar, wanted a cat
because hers was 'stolen', refused to believe we
didn't have a cat to 'give' her, wanted to come inside
and smell our house and was just generally loony.
Yahoo; the freak-magnet strikes again. So, I called
Joan (my rescue friend) right away (she threw a kitten
over Joan's fence once about 5 years ago and drove
away; Joan watched her do it) and she's alerting every
group in the area to put Lydia on the 'do not adopt'
list and also calling anyone advertising kittens to be
given to good homes. My husband made the mistake of
saying that Princess was ours and she was not getting
her back; now, after Haney the German Shepard, I have
become a gifted liar and I would have told her
straight out that I had placed her. She said she
didn't want Princess, but wanted a kitten, but, hey,
she's crazy so who knows what she might do? I'm
afraid for my cats because I'm gone ! all day and I
really don't need any scrutiny from AC or the police,
because there is no technical number of animals you
can or cannot possess within the city limits, but
those of us with big numbers keep it quiet, just
because people can be such a-holes and nobody wants to
see their animals used as pawns.
So, does this suck or what? Sorry for ranting, just
had to talk to folks who would understand. My husband
is always so supportive; he really threw me
yesterday...I'm hoping it was just a bad day; I don't
know what I'll do otherwise...
Hugs and headbutts everybody! Thanks for listing.
Love, Julie
