Well, that definitely sounds like a seizure.  I would have a neurological specialist take a look at her at the closest vet school.  Sometimes even a phone consult can help.  Knowing exactly what the seizure looked like and what her body was doing etc can help the vet figure out what could be causing it - also her previous medical history can figure into it.  We believe Ninja's seizures were caused by a type of brain tumor called a meningioma - oral prednisone controlled them for a few months and then we added phenobarbital and she was seizure-free for her last two months (intestinal lymphoma got her in the end).  I never was able to afford a CT scan for exact diagnosis, but I spoke several times with a neurologist at the UW-Madison vet school and since the toxoplasmosis test had come back negative for Ninja, the most likely culprit was the meningioma, so we treated accordingly and it worked.

Definitely talk to your regular vet about this, there are a number of possibilities as to cause and treatment for most of them is quite reasonable.  And if you don't treat aggressively.......  with Ninja, her seizures accelerated from 1 every three weeks for a couple of months to two at two weeks and 5 at ten days.....  and then whenever I f***ed up her medicine schedule (maybe once or twice cause I felt so bad - she had her medicine twice a day between 7-8 am and 5-7 pm and if it was off by a couple of hours, like on a weekend.......... ), she'd end up having 5-6 in one day and they took a lot out of her:(

Please keep me posted!!!!!!

PS - where are new pics of Kellie??

Hello my friends,

Been only lurking lately and have grieved with all who have suffered losses.
Sending prayers to those fur-babies that are ill or just plain not feeling
too great.

Advice please......

My oldest cat, Meechie, who is 16-yr old, negative, and typically very
healthy had either a stroke or a seizure yesterday. Scared the crap out of
me figuratively speaking and out of her...literally ! She collasped on her
way to the litter box, panting heavily, tongue out, eyes flickering back and
forth. My son found her in this condition. We rushed her to the emergency
vet (a new one), who did the....."Well, she's 16-yrs old and there appears
to be neurological damage (her eyes were still flickering and she could not
stand), and quality of life is the real issue and the kindess thing would be
to PTS!!"

I was so pissed. I told the ! doc, that I KNEW ALL THAT and didn't need a
$150 an hour emergency clinic to tell me that. I was there to see if there
was anything they could DO for her !!! I asked if the flickering in her
eyes would stop? I asked if her neurological system could restablize and
her motor skill restored. I know that human stroke/seizure victims can
recover. But he said no, she wouldn't recover and all he could do would be
to give her a steriod shot for inflammation.

So, I said, Okay, give her the shot. Then gave me a stupid look and said,
"Don't you want to think this over first"...as in "don't you think you
should just put her down!!"....you know how you can tell they are really
saying ??!! Anyway, I was crying and emotional (as usual, but even more so
because I've had Meechie longer that I've had kids - my oldest son is 15)
and she was a present from my now ex-husband given to me on our wedding day.
She even went on my honeymoon with me !!!! (---! ha, maybe that's why we're
divorced (jk), but I just couldn;t leave her behind !),

Anyway, everyone around me (my family, friend who came with me, my
boyfriend, the doc), everyone told me to PTS. But her eyes told me, "No Mom,
not yet!". So I took her home.

This morning she got up and walked to the kitchen!! Hooray. Her eyes are
no longer flickering. (Screw you, doc !!)

She seems somewhat disoriented, but ate a little bit of wet food on her own,
which I supplemented with a KMR/baby food mush mixture by syringe.

Now what ??? Has anyone had this type of experience. Is she now prone to
more seizures? Other than her age, what could have caused the seizure?
Any advice?

Denise
