Another thing to try - the Neosynephrine Nasal Spray (4 hour only).  Put a drop or two on a q-tip, and dab on his nose. IT's a decongestant, so you can't use the 12-hr, but I've used the 4-hour and it helped clear a "clog" so they could smell food.

I used Lysine with an oral syringe, not in food, btw, along with Vitamin C powder in water or chicken broth.

Gentamicin sounds good.  I used to bathe Lucy's eye and nose with warm saline solution.  Also used dry Golden Seal in warm water, and bathed her eye and nose.  Another herbal eyebath  is Eyebright.

Lots of hugs and kisses and purrs for Alec!

Thanks so much for all of your good wishes and suggestions.

Tried the stinky food.  Didn't work.
Not using lysine.  He won't eat anyway.  But I am using gentamicin drops.  I have saline nasal spray if I need it.
Haven't asked about the Zovirax, but based on previous experience with this local vet, he doesn't carry specialty medications.  I'd need to take Alec to a new doctor, and I don't want to do that right now.  But I've delivered all kisses, scratches and hugs!

Anita, I'll write to you later.  Glad that Zade is feeling better!
